NEXT WEEK ALL FIVE STUDIO ALBUMS BY MID-’90S AESTHETES GENE – INCLUDING THE CAREER-DEFINING OLYMPIAN, ITS GRANDIOSE FOLLOW-UP DRAWN TO THE DEEP END AND THE EARLY RARITIES COLLECTION TO SEE THE LIGHTS – ARE TO BE REISSUED AS DELUXE DOUBLE-DISC EDITIONS.
Though frontman Martin Rossiter declined to be involved with the curation of the new editions (preferring to concentrate on his solo material after a long absence from the scene following Gene’s split in 2004) for drummer Matt James, bass player Kevin Miles and guitarist Steve Mason, the reissues have provided an opportunity to take time out from the day jobs and plunder the archives for previously unreleased material. In this new edition of The Mouthcast, Matt James discusses some of that rare Gene material. He also talks about 1995 debut OLYMPIAN, 1996 compilation TO SEE THE LIGHTS, ambitious DRAWN TO THE DEEP END (1997), 1999’s concise and powerful REVELATIONS and 2001 swansong LIBERTINE…
